The National Hockey League (NHL) Department of Player Safety has announced that Calgary Flames forward Martin Pospisil has been suspended for three games for his hit on Seattle Kraken defenseman Vince Dunn.

The incident took place in the last minutes of Monday’s contest at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. Dunn had his back turned to the play as he was collecting a pass behind his team’s net. Pospisil drilled Dunn from behind, and the poor defenseman went crashing into the end boards. He immediately left the ice in discomfort.

A major penalty was issued on the play, which was upheld after a brief review. The Flames' player was issued a game misconduct for boarding and was ejected.

After the game, Kraken coach Dave Hakstol called the hit “garbage” following his team’s 4-2 victory over the Flames. Dunn did not return to the game and also missed Tuesday's match against the Winnipeg Jets.

The Flames travel east for a road trip and next play Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Pospisil will be eligible to return once the Flames return home to Alberta on Tuesday, and will face the visiting Colorado Avalanche.

This is Posposil’s first suspension. He has 15 points and 72 penalty minutes in 45 games this season.
