We all get it: first overall pick Connor Bedard is talented and exicted to watch, and at just 18 years old, he is quickly becoming the new face of the Chicago Blackhawks and of the National Hockey League itself. This could explained why an autographed jersey of Bedard sold for a whopping $20,100 at a Chicago Blackhawks Foundation charity auction over the weekend.

It occurred during the past weekend, when the Blackhawks announced prior to the event that this would be the only opportunity this season for fans to bid on a jersey signed by the league’s No. 1 overall pick.

Way to crank up the bidding for the collectible!

When researching on the Blackhawks’ Foundation, it is explained how it “works to create a healthier, smarter, more secure world for children and families across Chicagoland. By providing access to programming and resources that make a positive impact, the organization strives to invest in Chicagoland’s youth, support local families in need and honor the sacrifices of others in addition to growing the great game of hockey,” their website states.

All proceeds from the auction benefit the cause. Which is great. But even for this great of a cause, I am not sure I’d put up that much money for a signed jersey by Bedard.

It is true that the Blackhawks rookie superstar does not always give autographs. He was trending last weekend when in Montreal as Bedard refused to sign a Canadiens’ jersey when a Habs’ fan asked him for his autograph during his Bell Centre debut.

In a video shared by the Blackhawks’ social media team, Bedard can be seen signing fans’ jerseys during Chicago’s pre-game practice and turning down the young fan wearing a Cole Caufield Canadiens jersey.

Oh, I can’t do a Habs jersey,” Bedard chuckled.

This may have been an intensive for the buyer to put up that much money to get a one of a kind signature from Bedard, and for a great cause.
