Matthew Tkachuk ties an NHL record on Saturday night!

The heart and soul of the Florida Panthers joined an elite group of only 3 NHL players in history.

The Florida Panthers are looking like a team of destiny right now after barely squeaking into the Stanley Cup playoffs as an 8 seed. Thus far on their run they have defeated the greatest regular season team in National Hockey League history in the Boston Bruins, caused the Toronto Maple Leafs to implode after a 5 game stomp in the second round, and have now taken a commanding 2-0 lead over the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference Final.

There are a number of factors that have contributed to the success of the Panthers in the playoffs thus far but there's little doubt that one of the major ones has been the play of Panthers star forward Matthew Tkachuk. Tkachuk has been a factor on the scoreboard as well as with his physical, and often annoying, brand of play but on Saturday night he took that to the next level when he tied an NHL record.

With his overtime winner on Saturday night, Tkachuk joined an elite group of just 3 players in NHL history to have recorded 3 overtime winners in a single playoff run. Tkachuk joins Mel Hill, who accomplished the feat all the way back in 1939, Montreal Canadiens legend Maurice "The Rocket" Richard and Corey Perry as the only players to have accomplished the feat, an incredibly small and elite club to be sure.
