Marco Rossi slams “really bad” NHL referees over controversial call involving Patrick Kane.
Minnesota Wild forward Marco Rossi was not impressed with the NHL's officials on Saturday night.
I think it is safe to say that the Minnesota Wild weren't huge fans of the officiating they received from National Hockey League referees Ghislain Hebert and Jake Brent as well as linesmen Devin Berg and Shandor Alphonso on Saturday night, with some rather blunt comments about their performance being made by the Wild following the conclusion of that game.
The harshest criticism would come from Minnesota Wild forward Marco Rossi, who following the game showed no concern for any potential fines when he flat out admonished the officials on the ice for how they conducted themselves during the game. Rossi was particularly upset with a penalty that was called on him when Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane had gone down in the corner, with Rossi being sent to the box for tripping as a result.
Rossi however felt that Kane had done more than a little embellishing on the play, which the video replay certainly seems to support. While it's true that Rossi's stick does make contact with Kane, the delayed reaction from the Red Wings forward was so blatant that you can't help but laugh when watching the replay.
Unsurprisingly, given what we can see on the video, Rossi expressed how unhappy he was following the game with some rather harsh comments about the officiating
"I don't know about a penalty, to be honest," said Rossi. "Yeah, the refs were really bad today. But it happens."
What makes his comments all the more surprising is the fact that Rossi and the Wild would find a way to battle through the controversy in this one and claim the win over the Red Wings, but the officiating was so bad, at least according to Rossi, that it was still front and center on his mind even after the game had ended in the Wild's favor.
