Fans are keeping a close eye on Marc-Andre Fleury as the trade deadline is getting closer, though Charlie Roumeliotis of NBC Sports Chicago reports that the Blackhawks unless he asks to be traded. The beloved goalie has a 10-team no-trade clause and has surfaced in recent trade rumours, with the latest tying him to his former club, the Vegas Golden Knights, whose GM Kelly McCrimmon denied the chatter. If Fleury does request a trade, the Hawks won’t send him somewhere he doesn’t want to go, which has to be a relief for the veteran net minder.

Recent reports have indicated that Flower is not interested in joining the Washington Capitals, who have been in the mix to acquire him because he would not be comfortable coming to Washington in a trade because he is “still very much a Penguin.”

There is a sense now that not many Stanley Cup strong contenders are looking for an upgrade in between the pipes. Sure the Colorado Avalanche might be, but the team is also looking to add up front with a tight cap space. Fleury’s is just too much. The Edmonton Oilers are believed to be in the mix, though it is rumoured that Flower does not consider them enough of a contender to accept a trade to Edmonton. After the Capitals, this would be the second time Fleury rejects a potential trade ahead of the deadline.

Earlier this week, Fleury explained that he has not held conversations with the Hawks about a potential trade, though he believes his agent has. On top of that, Flower also revealed that he strongly believes he’ll play at least one more season beyond this one.

I love Fleury, so I would love to see what he can do in the last seasons of his career, especially with a club that can win a championship. There was once chatter of a reunion with the Pittsburgh Penguins, which sounds too good to be true.

After the messy trade from Vegas to Chicago, you can’t blame Fleury for considering another move. He is likely to speak to his family about this before making the decision.
