Maple Leafs confirm even more bad news for Jani Hakanpaa.

Things just keep getting worse in the bizarre story of Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jani Hakanpaa.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have confirmed even more bad news in the bizarre saga of defenseman Jani Hakanpaa.

On Saturday, the Leafs confirmed that Hakanpaa would be pulling out of the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament with the team officially confirming that injury concerns were the reason behind the decision. Hakanpaa has been recovering from injury and there was some belief that he would use the tournament as something of a conditioning stint before returning to the Maple Leafs but that may have been overly optimistic.

This is just the latest setback in a long list of setbacks for Hakanpaa and the Maple Leafs and it doesn't exactly reflect well on the organization when it seems that many saw these setbacks coming from a mile away.

When it was first revealed that the Maple Leafs were in talks to sign Hakanpaa last summer, reports quickly emerged indicating that at least some teams around the National Hockey League felt that his career was already over. In spite of this the Maple Leafs went through with the decision to add Hakanpaa to their roster, a decision that is looking more and more questionable by the day.

Hakanpaa has only appeared in 2 NHL games for the Maple Leafs this season, although he did play an additional 2 games in the American Hockey League for the Toronto Marlies, and it is certainly fair to ask whether or not we will see him hit the ice again at this point.

Stay tuned for more on this bizarre and developing story.
