Are we witnessing the greatest playoff performance by a defenseman ever?

In case you missed it last night, the Colorado Avalanche completed their sweep of the Nashville Predators and are moving on to round two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Avs made short work of the Preds thanks in large part to their record setting performance of superstar defenseman Cale Makar.

Makar put up 10 points in the series to establish a new record for the most points through a defenseman's first four games of the playoffs. Makar surpasses legends like Bobby Orr, Paul Coffey and Denis Potvin in doing so.

Check it out:

What we're seeing this postseason from Makar is nothing short of legendary. If the team goes on a long run and Makar continues to play at or close to his current level, his post-season will be one for the ages. Just take Game 2 of the series in which Makar not only scored the game winning goal in OT, but he also managed 11 shots on goal (!!!) and 12 blocked shots. If that's not getting it done at both ends of the ice, I don't know what is.

Teammate Nathan MacKinnon has already called Makar the best player in the world, maybe this post-season will serve as Makar's coming out party?
