Major trade brewing between Boston and Vancouver
Reports hint at a trade to become “more likely” in the coming days. Full details below:
Last week, a blockbuster trade took place in which forward Mikko Rantanen was shipped by the Colorado Avalanche to the Carolina Hurricanes in a three-team deal that also saw the Canes getting Taylor Hall from the Chicago Blackhawks and Martin Necas and Jack Drury on their way to Denver. When the trade was announced, details emerged on how Carolina attempted to land J.T. Miller or Elias Pettersson out of Vancouver first, only for it to come undone with the Canucks and the Canes turning to Rantanen.
This has prompted the already hot rumours about Miller to get scorching hot with now the Boston Bruins entering the mix.
According to NESN’s analyst Andrew Raycroft, the Bruins should focus on brining Miller to Boston.
“He’s a super ultra-competitive veteran who’s won many playoff games and playoff series and is just a gamer when the game’s at its biggest,” Raycroft said.
“I mean, J.T., he’ll get in your face if things aren’t going well … and that’s something you would have to deal with,” Raycroft added. “This seems much more personal, this seems like it’s been going on a really long time and has finally hit its head. If you have a strong locker room, it shouldn’t be something that you’re concerned about.
“There are locker rooms that could absorb a guy like that, and I would assume the Bruins culture and Brad Marchand, Charlie McAvoy and David Pastrnak would have that ability if that was the case.”
Some fans are uneasy about the idea of brining Miller to the dressing room in Boston due to the reports of the feud taking place in Vancouver. On Tuesday, Canucks president Jim Rutherford spoke candidly with Gary Mason of the “Globe and Mail” about the team’s struggles this season and openly admitted that a locker room feud between Pettersson and Miller has fractured the club.
No one is sure about what Bruins general manager Don Sweeney plans on doing ahead of the March 7 deadline, especially after president Cam Neely admitted that Boston has “two paths” they are getting ready for : one that the Bruins are buying and the other retooling.
This hasn’t stopped Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli to label the Bruins as a dark horse to land Miller.
“I do believe that the Boston Bruins have kept very close tabs on the Miller situation with the Vancouver Canucks. I would term them as a team lurking in the weeds right now to try and monitor those prices. And wouldn’t be surprised if this continues to linger on closer to the March 7 deadline. … They’re a team that could remain in the mix.”
We better keep an eye on this…
