Lots of movement on NHL waivers today, former 40+ goal scorer Atkinson and 11th overall pick Brown available for free
Any takers?
Yesterday, the San Jose Sharks placed forward Walker Duehr on waivers.
Duehr has played just 8 games for the Sharks since being claimed off of waivers from the Calgary Flames earlier this season. Because he was previously with Calgary, the Flames could has put in a claim on him and assigned him directly to the team's AHL affiliate Calgary Wranglers. If any other NHL team were to put in a claim on him though, they would not be able to assign him to the AHL without waivers.
As it turned out though... nobody put in a claim on Duehr.
He'll now be assigned to the Sharks' AHL affiliate San Jose Barracuda.
Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Lightning placed forwards Cam Atkinson and Logan Brown on waivers today.
Atkinson, of course, is a former top six scoring forward who put up 41 goals and 69 points just five years ago in Columbus. Now though, he's a 35 year old depth forward on a cheap contract. He makes just $900,000 and is a pending free agent. In 36 games with the Lightning this season he has just three goals and eight points.
As for Brown, the former 11th overall pick (2016 NHL Draft) hasn't played an NHL game in two years. He has lit it up in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch this season scoring seven goals and 19 points in 25 games but at 26 years old it's hard to see him with an NHL future.
