Linus Ullmark may be injured despite claims to the contrary.
The Ottawa Senators may have signaled that their big summer acquisition may already be injured.
The Ottawa Senators may have just signaled some very bad news indeed.
On Sunday, the Senators big offseason acquisition, Linus Ullmark, was notably absent from practice but the fears of an injury were quickly put to rest when Senators head coach Travis Greene indicated that Ullmark was merely taking a maintenance day.
Now however it would appear that Greene was either not entirely forthcoming about the situation surrounding his star goaltender, or that the Senators simply did not have all the information regarding Ullmark's status.
A move on Monday morning appears to indicate that Ullmark's situation may be more concerning than originally believed with the Senators making an early morning emergency recall to add a goaltender to their current roster. That move sees goaltender Mads Sogaard called up to the main roster, an indication that Ullmark will not be ready to go today when the Senators take on the Los Angeles Kings in an afternoon game.
Sogaard has not played in the NHL this season but does have one appearance in the American Hockey League where he played very well, making 27 saves in a loss on his way to a .964 save percentage.
Despite the emergency call up, there has been no update regarding Ullmark forthcoming from the Senators but you have to presume that there is some kind of injury or illness keeping him out of the lineup at this point. I expect the Senators will provide an update ahead of their game later today, so stay tuned for more details on this developing story.
