Linus Ullmark gifts Auston Matthews an easy goal.
Linus Ullmark helps Auston Matthews in the middle of his scoring slump, gifting him maybe his easiest goal of the season.
Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has been in a bit of a scoring slump as of late, but thankfully for the Leafs star forward he got a helping hand with that issue from an unexpected source on Saturday night.
Matthews and the Maple Leafs clashed with their provincial rivals, the Ottawa Senators, on Saturday night in what was a back and forth affair and it would be during that game's second period that Matthews would pick up one of his easiest goals of the season.
It was a normal clearing attempt from the Maple Leafs a little less than midway through the second period, one that Ullmark would attempt to wrangle himself with the intention of quickly moving it back up the ice. That was the plan at least, but unfortunately for Ullmark everything would go terribly wrong.
Ullmark would fan on his initial attempt to play the puck up the ice, and his second attempt didn't go much better with the Senators netminder falling forward as he placed the puck on a silver platter for the aforementioned Matthews. Matthews would make no mistake and fired off a shot into a wide open net, wide open other than the fact that teammate Max Domi had ended up in the back of the net during all the chaos.
There's no question that this is the kind of goal that Ullmark is going to want back, especially given that this is a game with playoff implications for both of the teams involved.
