Latest Jeremy Swayman contract update isn't good

The Bruins No. 1 goaltender has yet to be signed.

The Boston Bruins made the decision to trade Linus Ullmark after three seasons, sending him to the division rival Ottawa Senators in exchange for Joonas Korpisalo and officially bringing an end to the 1-2 combination in net that was Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman.

Swayman, who got the start in all but one of Boston's postseason games this past spring, is now the main man in Boston's crease. But there's only one problem as Training Camp is now just over a month away - he and the Bruins have yet to agree on a new contract.

And the latest indication from noted NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman doesn't exactly paint the most optimistic of pictures for Bruins fans hoping that a resolution comes soon. According to Friedman, the two sides "aren't close" on a new deal:

“The last I heard, they weren't close," he said on the latest episode of his '32 Thoughts' podcast. "I think this has been a bit of a challenging negotiation, but they've still got time, and we'll see how this sorts out."

He's coming off a one-year, $3.475 deal that he was awarded after filing for arbitration last summer. His reported asking price was just under $5 million, while the Bruins were only willing to offer $2 million. Right now, the Bruins have approximately $8,636,666 of cap space available.

Last season with the Bruins, Swayman amassed a record of 25-10-8 with a 2.53 goals against average, .916 save percentage and a trio of shutouts.
