Knies crashes into Swayman in controversial Game 7 moment.

There will be plenty of discussion about this moment after Game 7,

Jonathan Larivee

This will almost certainly be a much discussed moment following the conclusion of this Game 7, regardless of the outcome.

We were treated to something of a controversial moment in the second period after a hooking penalty earned by Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies led to a great scoring opportunity for the Maple Leafs.

Knies was awarded a 2 minute minor penalty for hooking Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak but, after the 2 minutes had expired, Knies would come charging out of the penalty box and manage to get a partial breakaway opportunity thanks to a great pass down the ice.

Unfortunately for Knies he would never get a chance to capitalize on that scoring opportunity after Bruins defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk stopped him in his tracks, resulting in Knies losing his balance and crashing hard into the Bruins net and Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman.

There are already plenty of Maple Leafs fans expressing their displeasure at the fact that a penalty was not called on Shattenkirk, and no doubt this will turn into a much bigger controversy after the fact should the game not go their way.
