When the Los Angeles Kings got involved in a three-team trade on Tuesday, they were working towards clearing out nearly $6M in annual cap hit. Thats’s what happened when they sent goalie Cal Peterson, defensemen Sean Walker and Helge Grans and the Kings’ 2024 second-round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers sent Provorov and forward Hayden Hodgson to the Kings in return. The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired defenseman Kevin Connauton from Philadelphia in exchange for a 2023 first-round pick (22nd overall) and conditional second-round pick in either the 2024 or 2025 NHL Draft. The Kings then flipped Provorov to the Blue Jackets in exchange for Connauton.
All this to say that the monster trade allowed the Kings to get enough cap space to sign defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov to a two-year contract, his agent Dan Milstein announced on Wednesday. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports that the deal is two years at $5.875 M AAV.
Gavrikov was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He appeared in 20 games for the Kings this past season after a March trade with the Blue Jackets. He scored three goals, added six assists and averaged 20:01 of ice time a night.
And now he is set to stay in LA as a key member of its blue line!
