A terrifying incident in the American Hockey League on Friday night has left a young man seriously injured.

On Friday night, during a clash between the Utica Comets and Laval Rocket, Comets forward Filip Engaras suffered a very scary injury when his head and back absorbed the brunt of a violent collision with the end boards.

Engaras, a former 6th round pick of the Edmonton Oilers at the 2020 National Hockey League Entry Draft. was injured when he was racing down the ice trying to make a play in the offensive zone, only to be cut short by Zack Hayes who may have tripped him up on the play. It did not appear as though there was any malicious intent on the part of Hayes, who did appear to be trying to play the puck, but the end result was devastating.

Whether he was tripped or not, Engaras would lose his balance and go hard into the boards, turning his body in the process. The result was Engaras going head and back first into the boards and laying motionless on the ice following the impact.

Things looked so bad that players from both teams rushed over in concern, and those concerns appear to have been well founded. Engaras would eventually be loaded onto a stretcher and carried off the ice, and we have received no real updates on his status as of yet.

The Utica Comets have indicated that Enagars is being evaluated by medical professionals in Laval, but as I mentioned no real updates on how he is doing or the severity of his injuries have been shared at this time.

Please keep Filip Engaras in your thoughts, and may he make a full and speedy recovery from his injuries.
