On Thursday, CBC reported about a brawl that took place at a hockey game. For some, the words aren’t shocking when it comes to hockey and the ongoing debate of fighting on the ice, however, this news report is very disturbing seeing that the brawl occurred in the stands during a kids’ game.

We’re talking about young children here who are learning to love the game.

According to CBC, an Ontario kids’ hockey game between seven and eight-year-olds had to be halted because parents and at least one coach started fighting in the stands. In the video, other parents can be heard screaming and asking for the brawl to come to an end while the men involved in the altercation are shoving, pushing and hitting one another.

This is what happened, per CBC:

The young players were sent to their respective benches and had to wait until the brawl was broken up and cooler heads prevailed. The brawl broke out at the season-opening tournament for the Klevr Super League, which attracts some of Ontario’s best young players.

The league refused CBC’s request from an on-camera interview, however the co-founder of the KSL, Jamie Stone offered the following statement:

“The KSL intends to take appropriate action, and has taken interim steps, including suspensions.”

Stone also added that violent or aggressive behaviour won’t be tolerated.

I mean any violence around children is unacceptable and the fact that parents that are supposed to attend games to support their kids are involved in this is unacceptable. As for the coach, I certainly hope they aren’t allowed to continue in their position.

Come on! They’re kids, let them have fun on the ice!
