Kane ignores questions, making fans nervous on if he’s truly learned from his mistakes…

On Thursday, forward Evander Kane and the Edmonton Oilers reached an agreement on a one-year contract, a deal will pay him close to $1 million for the remainder of the season with a full no-move clause.

On Friday morning, Kane sat down with GM Ken Holland and head coach Dave Tippett to be introduced as their new player, confirming he’d be in the lineup on Saturday night to face the Canadiens in Montreal.

When asked about what he expects to bring to the Oilers, Kane wanted to make sure that everyone knew that he is a leader and expects to have a positive impact in the dressing room. He added that he wants to be there for his new teammates and make sure they do not make the same mistakes he has.

When asked about those mistakes, Kane did not go into details but said he had learned from them. But when it was time to explain what he had learned to TSN’s Ryan Rishaug, Kane ignored the question, saying:

"We don't have enough time to talk about all the things I've learned today, my goodness."

Kane, though he expressed how excited he was to be playing for the Oilers, ignored many questions asked his past actions, looking to focus on hockey and saying again and again that some things that were reported very false, taking zero responsibility for past transgressions.

“I take responsibility for things I’ve done wrong, but I’m not going to take responsibility for things I haven’t done.”

This might be unnerving for fans in Edmonton. Usually, when someone learns from past mistakes, that person is less likely to repeat them.

I can’t say we can confidently make that statement when it comes to Kane.

The new Oiler and general manager Ken Holland confirmed Friday that the winger will play Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens. The game will mark Kane’s first in the NHL since May, 12 2021, when he last played with the San Jose Sharks. He appeared in five games with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda this season, scoring two goals and adding six assists.
