Calgary Flames forward Jonathan Huberdeau was ejected from Thursday’s game after receiving a five-minute major penalty and game misconduct for boarding Columbus Blue Jackets’ Jack Roslovic.
The scene was quite disturbing as Huberdeau hit Roslovic in the numbers midway through the third period. As soon as he made contact, Roslovic went face first into the boards while Huberdeau was attacked by the Blue Jackets on the ice.
Roslovic was able to skate off the ice on his own, but his face was covered with blood. He headed down the tunnel towards the Blue Jackets’ dressing room, where I can only assume he required repairs and stitches.
On the play, Huberdeau was assessed a major penalty, which was upheld upon review. As he sat in the penalty box, he looked like he knew he was about to get tossed from the contest. The Blue Jackets scored once on the ensuing five-minute power play.
Here is the play:
Despite the bloody scene and finishing the game without Roslovic, the Blue Jackets came out on top with a 5-2 win, consequently handing the Flames their fourth consecutive loss.
The Flames not only loss Huberdeau up front, but at the time of the misconduct were already without forward A.J. Greer. The poor forward sustained a horrific ankle injury in the second period and was helped off the ice. He was out for the remainder of the contest, and there is a feeling he is likely to miss significant time with the lower body injury.
