Johnny Gaudreau’s wife Meredith shares emotional post on continous coverage about her late husband
The wife of the late hockey star Johnny Gaudreau shared this moving post on her personal account.
Just over two months ago, Columbus Blue Jackets star forward Johnny Gaudreau and his younger brother Matthew were stuck and killed by a drunk driver while riding bikes in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, on August 29, on the eve of their sister’s wedding, where both brothers were to be groomsmen. Earlier this month, the Blue Jackets honoured the Gaudreau brothers in an emotional tribute ahead of the game vs. the Florida Panthers in which every player on both teams wore Gaudreau jerseys during the pregame warmups. When taking the opening faceoff, Columbus did it with only four players on the ice, leaving the left wing - Gaudreau’s old position - vacant. Both teams then let 13 seconds elapse in further tribute with the crowd chanting “Johnny Hockey.”
It’s been so emotional for everyone who loved Johnny and Matthew in the past two months.
It’s been especially hard for Johnny’s wife Meredith who shared an emotional post earlier this week via her Instagram account. As the NHL network were discussing Johnny Gaudreau’s charity work on their program, Meredith responded to the video shared by a fan with the moving message:
“Can’t describe how thankful I am to see his face every time I open this app. Hope that never stops. My favorite face.”
Johnny was 31 years old at the time of his death, while Matthew was 29. Meredith Gaudreau is pregnant with the couple’s third child as the couple shared daughter Noa and son Johnny. Matthew Gaudreau’s wife, Madeline, is also expecting a child, the couple’s first, a son due in December, who will be named Tripp.
Meredith feels that videos and images shared online about her late husband comes as comfort to the family at this heartbreaking time.
I’m sure that if you have any great memory or story to post about Johnny Hockey, you are making a positive difference in the Gaudreau family’s healing. As Meredith said, it’s always great to see his face and keep his memory alive.
