Boston Bruins head coach Joe Sacco shares a brief update on captain Brad Marchand

In spite of the fact that they got the all important win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, many Bruins fans left that game feeling like the team's chances of making a late run for the Stanley Cup playoffs had been greatly diminished.

That was because in spite of picking up the win over the Penguins, during the game's very first period the Bruins would lose captain Brad Marchand to a rather scary looking injury. Marchand was driven into the boards by the Penguins' P.O. Joseph and stayed down for several moments before eventually needing help from teammate David Pastrnak and a member of the Bruins training staff to get back to the locker room.

On Sunday, Bruins head coach Joe Sacco shared an update on Marchand although admittedly Sacco wasn't very forthcoming with details on his injured captain.

"Same as yesterday." said Sacco. "There's really nothing to report yet, he's out today."

Sacco indicated that Marchand was still with the team but would undergo further evaluation when the team returned to Boston.

"We'll know more and he'll get evaluated when we get back to Boston, it's an upper body injury right now,"  confirmed Sacco.

That would make sense given that Marchand appeared to smack his head of the edge of the boards and seemed to be completely out of sorts following his awkward fall into the corner boards. The good news here is that this does not appear to be something that will keep Marchand out long term with NHL insider Elliotte Friedman adding some additional context.

"The good news is it doesn't appear that anybody is concerned that this is a long term thing," said Friedman on HNIC.
