Jared Bednar walks off after calling out NHL referees.

Jared Bednar and Nathan MacKinnon let the NHL referees know what they really think.

It seems fair to suggest that the Colorado Avalanche were not very happy with the officiating they received from the National Hockey League's officials on Saturday against the St. Louis Blues.

While there are certainly some questionable calls that were made against the Avalanche that you could dispute, the real source of frustration for the Avalanche seems to have stemmed from a penalty that was not called. Following 3 consecutive penalties against the Avalanche, Blues forward Zachary Bolduc delivered a clear blow to the head of Avalanche defenseman Ryan Lindgren, knocking him off of the puck in the process.

Now you can argue that this was either a push or a punch on the part of Bolduc, but based on the video evidence there is no question that Bolduc's hand made contact with Lindgren's head/face.

There was however no penalty called on the play and as you can see from the replay below, Avalanche star forward Nathan MacKinnon was furious with the NHL officials on the ice.

MacKinnon however was not alone in his frustration with Bednar also calling out the officials during his post game comments.

"Yeah I think it's a rough," said Bednar matter of factly. "You can shoulder him as hard as you want, you can blow him up and put him into next week I'm fine with it, but if you're gonna take your hand and hit him in the head and knock his helmet off it's a penalty."

Bednar was clearly frustrated with the whole situation and, perhaps in an effort to avoid saying anything that might earn him a fine, the Avalanche head coach simply got up from his spot and walked out of his post-game media conference.

Was this another blown call by the NHL officials? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
