Jamie Oleksiak facing potential suspension for hit on Alexander Alexeyev.

Oleksiak lands himself in trouble.

Jonathan Larivee

Seattle Kraken defenseman Jamie Oleksiak has landed himself in the crosshairs of the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety and that is bad news for both Oleksiak and the Kraken.

On Saturday, NHL Player Safety officially announced that the 29 year old veteran defenseman would face a hearing on Saturday for a hit he delivered to Washington Capitals defenseman Alexander Alexeyev.

The hit occurred at almost exactly the midway point of Saturday's game and appeared to be a direct blow to the head of Alexeyev. There was little question about whether or not this was a legal hit, and Oleksiak was awarded a major and a match penalty for the infraction at the time.

In spite of Oleksiak receiving a big penalty on the play it would appear that the league feels supplementary discipline will be necessary in this particular case. These are exactly the type of hits that the NHL is trying to get out of the league, and as a result I suspect that there is no chance that Oleksiak avoids a suspension during his hearing later today.
