Jake DeBrusk gets honest after split with Bruins

It was an “uncomfortable” situation for DeBrusk at times.

The Jake DeBrusk era is over with the Boston Bruins, as he's officially moved on to accept a seven year contract with the Vancouver Canucks that will pay him an AAV of $5.5 million.

He's spent the first 465 games of his career with the Bruins, scoring a total of 138 goals and 128 assists and helping them to within a game of winning the 2019 Stanley Cup. But as he moves on to the next part of his NHL career, he was sure to bid a heartfelt goodbye to the fans that cheered him on for seven years.

But now, DeBrusk recently revealed that he had twice requested a trade from the Bruins, and that it was certainly not an ideal situation for him having to face his teammates after the request was made public.

“When it came out, it was very uncomfortable,” he said. “It was very uncomfortable going into the rink the next day and talk to the guys in the room. The guys that were there were the biggest reason why I got out of that situation, that side of things. They had my back; they were with me through it all and they were all good with me. They understood why in the room, they knew it was just me trying to find a better fit for my career to have a longer NHL career and a better chance at something.”

November 26 will mark the first occasion that DeBrusk returns to TD Garden wearing opposition colors, and he'll almost certainly be getting a video tribute on the big screen.
