Jacob Trouba levels Corey Perry in Game 6.

Another big hit from Trouba.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the hitting of New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba in the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs and that continued during Saturday night's Game 6 at Amalie Arena in Tampa Bay.

Things were relatively quiet through the first 20 minutes of play between the aforementioned Rangers and the Tampa Bay Lightning, although the Lightning largely controlled the tempo in the first period. When the second period got underway though we started to see the tensions between these two teams once again become a factor, and once again it was Trouba who provided the spark that started the fire.

That spark came when Trouba caught Lightning veteran forward Corey Perry in the open ice with a huge hit, one that the Lightning appeared to feel should have warranted a penalty. The hit from Trouba was delivered in textbook fashion, he went in on Perry shoulder to shoulder and did not appear to make contact with Perry's head at any point, but the problem was that Perry never touched the puck on the play. Although the puck would pass right in between the Rangers defenseman and the Lightning forward, neither player would make contact with it prior to or after the hit.

The officials either didn't see the hit or didn't feel the same way and there was no call on the play.

Update: Corey Perry has left the Lightning bench.
