Is Tristan Jarry's career over with the Penguins?

A concerning report direct from the team today.

Trevor Connors

It's been a tough start to the season for Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry.

The 29 year old goaltender has an awful 5.47 goals against average and a .836 save percentage to start the season. He's in year two of a five year deal that pays him $5.375 million per season and there are rumors that Penguins GM Kyle Dubas is feverishly pushing Jarry on the trade market.

With the Penguins taking on the red hot Calgary Flames tonight though, Jarry won't be afforded the opportunity to turn things around. In fact, he won't even have the opportunity to watch the game from the bench. Today, the Penguins made the very unique and interesting choice to share their starting and backup goaltenders via social media. The team announced that Alex Nedeljkovic will get the start and that Joel Blomqvist will back him up this evening.

Check it out:

To me, that's a very deliberate move by the Penguins.

How often do you see a team Tweet out its backup goaltender for the evening? Has it happened ever?

This is a clear message to Jarry that he's not in the team's plans, at least in the immediate future.

So... what's next for Jarry?

Certainly there's not a team out there who would take on the full value of his contract? Dubas is either going to have to eat a significant portion of Jarry's contract via salary retention, or he's going to have to package him with a pick or a prospect just to get rid of him.

Gee... Kyle Dubas creating goaltending problems... who could have seen that happening after all his success in Toronto?
