Ilya Mikheyev gets emotional while discussing the latest disaster in Vancouver.
Another ugly moment this season for the Canucks.
The Vancouver Canucks appear to be their own worst enemy this season and for that reason it may be a little difficult for some fans to feel sorry for the team, but on Friday night there was no shortage of empathy for Vancouver Canucks forward Ilya Mikheyev as he discussed the latest disaster to befall the Canucks organization this season.
The 28 year old forward faced the cameras on Friday night when he confirmed that he will miss the remainder of the season as the result of a very significant injury to his knee. Mikheyev confirmed that he had in fact originally injured his ACL during the NHL's preseason and had spent the better part of the last four months playing on a badly injured knee.
In spite of the fact that the Canucks are well out of playoff contention this season Mikheyev continued to play through the injury but, although that may have been ill advised, his agent Dan Milstein has confirmed that this was the player's decision.
There was no mistaking the emotion in Mikheyev's voice as he described the personal sacrifices he made to play through a great deal of pain this season.
"Yes its a real challenge for me," admitted Mikheyev. "We worked hard with medical staff to try and find some way that I can play much better with this knee."
In fact Mikheyev was so emotional that when he was asked about how disappointed he was to see his season end in such a manner, he couldn't even get the words out.
"Of course it's uh....." said a very emotional Mikheyev before trailing off.
