Hurricanes lose goaltender Antti Raanta on Sunday.
Antti Raanta goes down with an injury.
This is the last thing you want to see during your final games of the regular season.
On Sunday afternoon during a game against the New York Islanders, the Carolina Hurricanes lost veteran goaltender Antti Raanta to injury after he appeared to injure himself while making a save. The injury to Raanta was not immediately apparent, although he was slow to get up on the play in question, and the veteran netminder would in fact try and remain in the game for several more minutes before finally taking himself out of the game.
Here is the save that we believe led to the Raanta injury, from two different angles.

Angle #2:
Following a few more minutes of play and a few more saves Raanta would eventually check himself out of the game entirely, a very bad sign for the Hurricanes given their current predicament as far as goaltending is concerned.
Just a few days ago the Hurricanes lost starting goaltender Frederik Andersen when he also went down due to injury. Much like in the case with Raanta today, Andersen was also injured on a non-contact play when he fell awkwardly and appeared to tweak his leg and/or knee during that fall.
Depending on the severity of the injury to Raanta here today this may prove to be a major disaster for the Hurricanes who are now only days away from the start of the Stanley Cup playoffs with both their starting goaltender and their backup goaltender on the sidelines due to injuries.
Raanta has been a very good backup for the Hurricanes this season with a 2.44 goals against average and a .912 save percentage over 26 appearances for the Canes.
Andersen on the other hand has had a very good season with the 2nd best goals against average in the NHL this season at 2.17 and the 5th best save percentage at .922 despite taking on a big workload with 52 appearances already this season in spite of the aforementioned injury.
