Huge issues surface for Michael Bunting!

There is just to much to do in Toronto this summer. New Maple Leafs general manager has so much on his plate that Chris Johnston believes one player will pay for this. On last night’s edition of Insider Trading on TSN, Johnston explained how Treliving has a lot on his plate right now and there a chance it can cause some issues with forward Michael Bunting.

“That certainly seems to be the case right now. It’s no secret that Bunting is a hometown guy and would love to remain with the Maple Leafs, but at this point in time there’s been no substantial negotiations between his camp and the organization.

“As we get this close to July 1, it seems to imply that a player who scored 20 goals each in the last two seasons, primarily playing on the team’s top line, is likely headed to the marketplace. The Leafs have not formally closed the door on Bunting but they feel that it’s going to be a busy marketplace for him and it will be hard to keep him.”

Bunting scored 23 goals with 26 assists this season with the Leafs, which was the final year of the two-year, $1.9 million deal he signed. And his next contract is projected to be considerably larger. That’s the issue.

Treliving needs to decide what he is willing to invest in Bunting, who could just walk away and test the free agency with the right to negotiate with any team in the league.

He might just do that to get the kind of money he is looking for. It may be bye bye Toronto after all.
