Montreal Canadiens defenseman Kaiden Guhle has just landed in hot water with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety, and we can only assume that the Philadelphia Flyers are thrilled about it.
The blue liner will have a hearing later today for slashing Philadelphia’s Travis Konecny.
The incident took place during the second period, when Guhle tapped Konecny with his stick while the Montreal defenseman was seated on his bench.
After the game, Konecny’s teammate Garnet Hathaway called out Guhle and the Canadiens in his post-game comments for a dirty play that was uncalled by the referees.
“The officials told us they didn’t see anything, but I feel like the league is going to review the sequence.”
Guhle has a clean record, but the fact that he’s been called to a hearing could have him face the first suspension of his career. Some fans have been expecting a fine, but the Flyers and their fanbase have been pleading for more.
And clearly, Hathaway’s complaints and Philadelphia’s demands for some kind of punishment have been granted.
Let’s see what the verdict will be for Guhle, who has become an important part of the Habs’ future at the blue line. So far in his short career in Montreal, the 22-year-old has recorded 39 points in 110 contests.
