Gritty attacked backstage at the Wells Fargo Center in Philly.

Although I have to admit I wasn't the biggest fan of Gritty when he was unveiled back in September of 2018, it took very little time for the bizarre mascot of the Philadelphia Flyers to win me and many other hockey fans over to his side. Since his inception Gritty has arguably been the best utilized mascot in all of professional sports and has quickly grown into an international superstar that reaches far beyond the borders of Philadelphia.

When you ascend to that level of popularity in the public eye however you are bound to earn a hater or two, and that was a lesson that Gritty would learn the hard way on Saturday night as he lurked around the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Although the Flyers weren't in action on Saturday night, and won't be again until they kick off their National Hockey League regular season on Thursday, the Wells Fargo Center was still poppin thanks to an event hosted by the WWE that evening known as 'Extreme Rules'.

It was during that event that Gritty would run into WWE superstar Michael Mizanin, better known by his stage name 'The Miz', who is apparently not at all a fan of the loveable mascot. Gritty proceeded to give The Miz some of his very own memorabilia during the impromptu meeting, something that appeared to anger the professional wrestler who threw the shirt right back in Gritty's beautiful, happy face. A moment after throwing the shirt at Gritty, The Miz would launch an all out assault on the poor Flyers mascot, eventually knocking him down to the concrete floor of the Wells Fargo Center.

While this will no doubt be disturbing footage for fans of the loveable Gritty to see, there was thankfully a happy ending to this story. Following his assault on Gritty, The Miz would be attacked by fellow WWE superstar Samuel Shaw, better known by his stage name of 'Dexter Lumis', who apparently was there to rescue the big orange mascot. After putting The Miz to sleep, Dexter Lumis would help Gritty back to his feet and he seemed to be none the worse for wear.

Gritty did manage to get a little revenge of his own though before it was all said and done, make sure you stay tuned until the end to see it.
