On Thursday, Avalanche goalie Jonas Johansson was placed on waivers in order to reassign him to AHL Colorado.
However, he is now a member of the Arizona Coyotes as the club has claimed the 27-year-old netminder off waivers on Friday, per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman and others. Everyone else on waivers yesterday cleared.
It was expected for Johansson as Colorado brought in Alexandar Georgiev during the offseason. The now-Coyotes’ goalie has very little experience in the NHL, just 32 games in three campaigns.
On top of that in waivers news on Friday, many teams are starting to trim their rosters before opening night.
The New York Rangers placed Tim Gettinger and Andy Welinski on there.
The Washington Capitals put goaltender Hunter Shepard and forwards Michael Sgarbossa, Riley Sutter and Mike Vecchione on waivers for purpose of loan to Hershey.
More teams were active on waivers today as the Dallas Stars waived six players : Riley Barber, Joseph Cecconi, Rhett Gardner, Ben Gleason, Tanner Kero and Jerad Rosburg; the Detroit Red Wings let go of Chase Pearson on the wire and the Florida Panthers waived Connor Bunnaman.
The San Jose Sharks also placed CJ Suess and Andrew Agozzino on the wire, the Philadelphia Flyers let go of Isaac Ratcliffe and Linus Sandin as the Tampa Bay Lightning placed four players on there: Daniel Walcott, Darren Raddysh, Maxime Lagace and Trevor Carrick.
