On Tuesday, the Seattle Kraken had announced that they’ve placed defenseman Jaycob Megna on waivers to reassign him to the AHL. On Wednesday, he was claimed by the Chicago Blackhawks.

The 31-year-old has been struggling and that’s why earlier this season, the Kraken had sent him to the AHL for a conditioning stint. He had however been a healthy scratch for the past 10 games after he was recalled to Seattle and the Kraken opted to waive him on Tuesday.

The Blackhawks are taking a gamble on the 6 foot 6 defenseman since he has not played a single game all season. His only action came in that two-game conditioning stint in the AHL with the Coachella Valley Firebirds, in which he collected a goal.
Last season, he played 54 games between the Sharks and the Kraken, recording one goal and 11 assists for 12 points, all of those coming with San Jose.

Back in 2012, Megna was selected in the seventh round, 210th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2012 NHL Draft, and spent six seasons in the team. He then spent a season with the Vegas Golden Knights’ farm club, followed by parts of two with the Sharks. He was later trade to Seattle in exchange a fourth-round pick.

Megna is currently in the final year of a two-year deal with a $762,500 cap hit, and will be an unrestricted free agent in the 2024 offseason.

It is a safe bet for Chicago, where Megna could have a chance to show what he can do on the ice.

The Kraken is back in action they host the Ottawa Senators on Thursday, while the Blackhawks are facing the Rangers in New York tomorrow night.
