Furious fans call for Lafreniere to be cut from Rangers
Biggest bust since Yakupov? Biggest bust ever?!?!

It's been a rocky start for the NHL career of former 1st overall selection Alexis Lafreniere.
But, here's the thing... it's time to put up or shut up.
don't fool yourself into thinking the 21 year old Lafreniere is still one of the league's top prospects. He's a three year pro who has been given plenty of opportunity from the Rangers since the moment he was drafted 1st overall. Sure, he butted heads with former head coach Gerard Gallant a bit, but that can hardly explain his lack of production, much less explain his lack of effort on some nights.
Lafreniere hit a career high of 39 points in 81 games last season, which isn't bad by any measure but it's certainly underwhelming when you're talking about a former 1st overall pick. Now, Rangers fans are calling for Lafreniere to be cut from the team's main roster and sent, presumably, to the AHL.
The problem is, of course, that Lafreniere is subject to waivers and would be claimed in a matter of seconds, giving the Rangers exactly zero to show for their shiny #1 overall pick.
I think it's a bit silly to call for Lafreniere to be cut, but he CERTAINLY needs a breakout campaign this season or it will be his final season in New York. That much I know for sure. Stay tuned.
