On Friday, defenseman John Klingberg left the free agent market when he agreed to terms with the Edmonton Oilers. The team made the news official later in the afternoon, announcing that the veteran blue liner has signed for a year and now TSN’s Darren Dreger has revealed the full details of Klingberg’s new deal:

“Klingberg contract with the Oilers. $1M (pro rated) salary and $350,000 bonus.”

Frank Seravalli added that “The $350,000 bonus paid to John Klingberg this season by the Oilers is a signing bonus, not a performance bonus - which was available to him by the nature of his injury and time missed.”

Klingberg is making a comeback after spending more than a year working his way back from a double hip resurfacing surgery.

The Oilers are the winners of these sweepstakes as the Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators were reportedly also in the mix.

Last season with the Maple Leafs, Klingberg had five assists in 14 games before having to undergo the hip surgery. He hasn’t played in the league since November 2023.
