Frederik Andersen out with “not imminently life-threatening” medical issue.

There is some concern around the status and future of Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen this morning after a rather ominous sounding update from Hurricanes reporter Luke DeCock.

Earlier this morning the Hurricanes broke the news that they had signed veteran goaltender Jaroslav Halak to a professional tryout offer. That move was made necessary due to a medical update regarding the aforementioned Andersen.

Although the Hurricanes have not shared any details regarding the medical issue that has sidelined Andersen, a follow up from the News and Observer's Luke DeCock made this sound like it could be a significant issue moving forward.

From DeCock:

This wording is very ominous but I'm told the issue, and I don't know what it is specifically, is treatable and not imminently life-threatening, to the extent that clarifies things. It does need to be addressed and has the potential to keep Andersen out for period of time.

I can only hope that the Hurricanes and Andersen can quickly address whatever issue he is currently dealing with, and I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Andersen has appeared in 6 games this season for the Hurricanes, recording a 2.87 goals against average and a .894 save percentage.
