A former National Hockey League enforcer is reportedly surviving on nothing but social assistance and disability checks.
As reported earlier this week, according to a report from the Ottawa Citizen, former NHL forward Chris Simon has gone completely bankrupt, wasting away over $15 million dollars he earned during his tenure as a player in the NHL.
However things appear to be worst for him as he is reportedly battling symptoms of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
“Simon has asked the court to forgive the child-support debt, claiming he hasn’t had any significant income for years and is now unable to work because of injuries suffered during his playing career. That included symptoms of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, which he said are ‘thought to be attributable to significant brain trauma during his hockey career.’ As reported by Barstool Sports.
He would also suffer from depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and arthritis to his shoulder, hand, knees, back and neck.
Simon didn’t have a short career either, he played in 782 NHL games spending time as a member of the Quebec Nordiques, Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, Calgary Flames, New York Islanders and Minnesota Wild.
