Former NHL prospect suspended indefinitely for attacking fans in attendance
He’s definitely not hoping for another shot in the NHL, right?
Tempers did more than flare over the weekend in the Southern Professional Hockey League. In a game between the Fayetteville Marksmen and the Macon Mayhem on Friday night, forward Reggie Millette first got in trouble when he lashed out at a fan with his stick as he was leaving the ice.
It unfortunately didn’t stop there as Millette was back at it on Saturday, in the last of a back-to-back show down, when he had an altercation with fans before being ejected from the game.
A fan recapped what took place in both games as he witnessed the altercations and spoke about it on X:
“The SPHL needs to act on an incident that occurred after the Marksmen at the Mayhem game. Reggie Millette att*cked a fan with his stick as he left the ice Friday night. Saturday night team handlers had to get between him and the fans as he was sent off the ice Saturday night.”
Millette is a 24-year-old forward, who once played in 34 ECHL games with the Tulsa Oilers, the affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks and was a prospect of the organization. He was never selected in the NHL Draft, but showed great promise in 2020 when he was awarded a NCAA scholarship. Two years later, Bauer shared a video about Millette’s story back in 2022.
The Fayetteville organization released an official statement and announced that they had suspended Millette indefinitely for “conduct detrimental to the organization”.
Here’s their press release:
I don’t know how Millette will make up for this. He perhaps needs help to deal with anger issues as we all know violence is never the solution. I guess some folks will claim that this is not the NHL and that his chance to be once again a prospect is over, but high standards need to be applied in all sports and leagues.
