The Philadelphia Flyers have something of an ugly situation on their hands when it comes to National Hockey League prospect goaltender Alexei Kolosov.

The Flyers drafted the 22 year old netminder in the third round (78th overall) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft but after a falling out with the player he has remained in Russia, refused to report to rookie camp, and all signs point to the fact that he will not be reporting to Flyers training camp either.

The situation is less than ideal for the Flyers but it sounds like they are trying to make the best of it, letting teams around the NHL that may be interested in the young goalie know how much it will cost to pry his rights away.

It was NHL insider Elliotte Friedman who revealed on Monday morning what the Flyers were seeking in terms of a return for trading away Kolosov's rights.

From Friedman:

Teams who have inquired were told a second-round pick is the price.

The issue for the Flyers now will be whether or not they can find a trade partner that will be willing to give up a second round pick for what appears to be something of a gamble. One of the major reasons that Kolosov reportedly felt uncomfortable in North America was due to being homesick, a problem that obviously could apply to teams elsewhere in the NHL.

Kolosov also complained of being left alone in a North American hotel room for weeks by the Flyers, a situation where he had no ability to communicate with anyone around him.

"They put him in the hotel by himself and he felt isolated, especially since his English isn’t great," revealed an AHL source.

Perhaps a team with a better plan on how to move forward with Kolosov could still entice him to return to play in North America, although that does remain to be seen.

Kolosov spent most of last season playing in the Kontinental Hockey League for Dinamo Minsk, recording a 2.39 goals against average and a .907 save percentage across a spam of 47 games.
