Flyers handle rocky relationship hoping for solutions to disastrous start

“Certainly that’s one to keep an eye on because it’s been a bit of rocky relationship,” claims insider Chris Johnston.

The new era in Philadelphia looks like the same old problems for the Flyers. The team is now on a six game losing streak with head coach John Tortorella getting called out for poor line combinations and decisions during contests.

On Wednesday night, Philly fell 6-3 at the hands of the Washington Capitals, though the Flyers did claw back from a four-goal deficit to make things interesting.

What’s interesting now if what will be done to get back on track as Chris Johnston reported on last night’s Insider Trading on TSN on how the Flyers are working to find solutions. One available option could be to shake things up in net, though that would mean mending a rocky relationship with prospect goalie Alexei Kolosov.

“ I mean in part because of the Flyers struggles, I think they are looking for ways to that they could potentially put a shot in the arm of their roster, but I can say this, as much trouble as things were earlier in the year as much as this was not a good situation, things have settled a little bit and Kolosov has been playing in the American Hockey League, expected to start for Leigh High Valley on Friday night again, but he seems to be happy right now and so we’ll see if the call from the NHL comes soon, but certainly that’s one to keep an eye on because it’s been a bit of rocky relationship and start to his time in North America.”

In September, Kolosov did not report to camp in Philadelphia and remained in Russia until things were settled with the Flyers. He signed an entry-level contract with the Flyers back in 2023, but was loaned him to Dinamo Minsk last season. He then came to Philly to play in the American Hockey League with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, taking part in two games last season in the AHL. Reports claimed that Kolosov didn’t want to start this season in the AHL and wanted “to be guaranteed a spot in the NHL.”

As Johnston reports, Kolosov appears to be happy now and could be even happier if he does get the call up for a change in net in Philadelphia.
