The Philadelphia Flyers have announced on Friday that they have placed Tony DeAngelo on unconditional waivers for purposes of a buyout.
If unclaimed, DeAngelo will become an unrestricted free agent. He is scheduled to have a $5-million cap hit for the 2023-24 season.
As insider Frank Seravalli points out, this could be the way the defenseman ends back in Carolina, as he was expected to be traded to the Hurricanes earlier this month, before the NHL denied the transaction.
It seemed almost certain that DeAngelo would not pursue his career in Philadelphia since he was insulted when he was a healthy scratch by head coach John Tortorella. The defenseman only recorded 11 goals and 42 points in 70 games in his only season with the Flyers last season.
And so, the Flyers are done looking for a possible trade for DeAngelo and pushed him onto the waiver wire just under a month after trade talks to send DeAngelo to the Canes fell through.
Maybe he gets there that way…
