Elliotte Friedman opens up on Jeff Marek’s exit from Sportsnet

The co-host of the 32 Thoughts shared this:

Chris Gosselin

Earlier on Friday, Jeff Marek used his social media accounts to make a statement following his sudden departure from Rogers Sportsnet.

“Firstly, thanks for the outpouring of kinds words on Twitter/X. It really means the world to me.”

“After 13 great years at Sportsnet, I’m moving on. It’s been an incredible journey and I’m thankful to have worked alongside so many great people and played a role in bringing sports and hockey news to fans across Canada and the world. More to come soon.”

Moments later, his co-host Elliotte Friedman also used his personal platform to open up on his friend’s exit. He posted:

"When we started the podcast, Sportsnet asked if I wanted to do it myself or have a co-host. I liked the idea of playing off someone; @moorescottmore suggested Jeff Marek.

"It was brilliant. Jeff has his loopy suggestions, but they made for fun debates and great moments.

"Life throws curveballs at you. I will miss being his teammate, and thank him for being a tremendous co-pilot on the start to our 32 Thoughts podcasting voyage —  which will continue."

It was earlier on Thursday that it was reported that Marek no longer worked for Rogers Sportsnet. A spokesperson for Rogers Sportsnet then said they don’t share details on individual employee matters, but did confirm that Marek was no longer with Sportsnet.

Marek had no been seen or heard from since hosting the NHL Draft back in June. One of the last detail given by his co-host and insider Elliotte Friedman came the day after the Draft when he hosted a post-draft podcast solo and referenced Marek leaving on a red eye. There was supposed to be a podcast after July 1 to review the state of play after the opening of free agency but obviously they never did as that show was reportedly cancelled.

This is the end of an era.
