Ducks goalie John Gibsons undergoes emergency surgery

The 31 year old goalie will miss the start of the season.

UPDATE: The Ducks have confirmed the news and have indicated that Gibson will miss 3-6 weeks.


This just in according to Anaheim Ducks insider Eric Stephens, Ducks goaltender John Gibson is out of the pre-season due to an emergency appendectomy. 

There's no official timeline for Gibson's return, but Stephens reports that Gibson will miss the start of the regular season.


Anaheim Ducks goalie John Gibson underwent an appendectomy on Wednesday night, a team spokesperson confirmed to The Athletic on Thursday, and the procedure might put his availability for the start of the season in jeopardy.

Gibson had been participating in the Ducks training-camp practices but had yet to appear in a preseason game. The team, which opens the season on Oct. 12 in San Jose, is expected to give a possible timeline on Gibson’s return on Thursday night.

The Ducks will turn to youngster Lukas Dostal who has emerged as the team's 1B goaltender over the past year. For better or worse, Dostal may get an extended run as the Ducks' uncontested starter to begin the season.
