Devastating update on Dylan Samberg from head coach Scot Arniel.

Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel confirms some truly terrible news on Saturday night.

The Winnipeg Jets have just lost one of their defensemen and it sounds like he is going to be out for quite a long time as well.

On Saturday night, Jets head coach Scott Arniel informed reporters that defenseman Dylan Samberg would be out indefinitely following an injury he suffered against the Nashville Predators. That injury, a broken foot, is likely to keep the Jets defenseman out for the majority of the season which is of course a huge blow to a Jets team that is having a great start to the season.

Samberg was injured when he successfully blocked a shot on goal from Predators forward Steven Stamkos, sacrificing his body in the process in order to prevent the shot from getting through.

Samberg looked like he was hurt right away, and of course we now know that he was indeed rather seriously injured, but much to his credit he stayed out on the ice and attempted to play out his shift in spite of the devastating injury. Samberg was however unable to continue and logged just 9 minutes and 7 seconds of ice time over 12 shifts as a result of the injury.

Stamkos is well known for having one of the hardest shots in the league so I can only imagine the kind of pain that Samberg was feeling after blocking that shot.

Making matters even worse is the fact that Samberg was having an excellent season with 3 goals and 3 assists for a total of 6 points over 21 games. Samberg also boasted a plus minus rating of +12 on the campaign and had taken on an important role on the Jets blue line where he was chewing up well over 20 minutes a game on average over the course of the season thus far.

"A big hole," said Arniel when describing the loss of Samberg.

I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery from what is a very tough injury.
