Crazy day on the NHL waiver wire former 1st rounder in play, Grubauer on the move and Saad cut loose

Some moving and shaking going on in the NHL today!

Buckle up, we've got some action on the NHL's waiver wire today.

First up, Seattle Kraken goaltender Philipp Grubauer who was placed on waivers yesterday, has cleared waivers and is on the move to the AHL's Coachella Valley Firebirds.

The 33 year old Grubauer has been dreadful this season with a 3.83 goals against average and a .866 save percentage. His worst stat though? He has just five wins in 21 starts. With a $5.9 million cap hit until 2027, it's no surprise that no other NHL teams took a chance on him via the waiver wire.

Next up, the Florida Panthers have placed former 8th overall selection (2018 NHL Entry Draft) Adam Boqvist on waivers.

Now here is a player who could generate real interest around the league.

Boqvist is on a cheap one year deal that pays him the NHL's minimum salary of $775,000. He has two goals and six points in just 18 games for the Panthers this season and has struggled to get into the lineup given the team's stacked blue line. At just 24 years old, on a cheap deal and with a 1st round pick pedigree working in his favor, don't be surprised if he's claimed tomorrow.

Finally, the St. Louis Blues have placed veteran forward Brandon Saad on unconditional waivers as a result of terminating his contract yesterday.

Once Saad clears tomorrow afternoon he'll become a free agent and can sign with any team in the NHL. Stay tuned, because the veteran forward clearly still has some game in him. It's expected that he'll sign a deal with a contending team to provide some experience and depth scoring.
