Coroner suspends investigation into death of Adam Johnson.

The Adam Johnson story has taken something of a curious twist over the weekend, with the coroner leading the investigation into his death announcing an extended pause into her investigation.

According to a report from the BBC, coroner Tanyka Rawden has announced that she will be suspending her investigation into Johnson's death until the month of July. Her decision stems from the fact that South Yorkshire Police still have an open investigation into Johnson's death with a man arrested back in November in relation to that investigation.

Rawden has announced that, should police close the investigation with no one charged prior to July, she will resume her investigation into the evidence at that time.

Johnson, who was playing as a member of the Nottingham Panthers at the time, tragically lost his life on October 28th of 2023 when he was struck in the neck by the skate of his opponent, Matt Petgrave of the Sheffield Steelers.

Johnson's death sent shockwaves through the hockey world and has already resulted in several league's making adjustment to their rules regarding equipment. Over the weekend, USA Hockey announced that it would be making neck guards mandatory for all under 18 players in their program moving forward.
