There were early reports on Friday that the Vancouver Canucks did take calls on forward J.T. Miller.

As we pointed out earlier on Friday, insider Frank Seravalli mentioned how he doubted that the Canucks would move Miller prior to today’s 3PMET deadline, though he did acknowledge how his name had come up more than once in trade chatter.

Later on Friday, TSN’s Darren Dreger indicated that the Canucks turned down offers from the Pittsburgh Penguins because they didn’t provide immediate help.

“The Penguins, through desperation, [Hextall] had lines in the water everywhere. Including taking a hard run at J.T. Miller, a hard run,” Dreger said. “Vancouver said we like the offer, we just can’t take it because it was draft picks. We need a centreman, and frankly, we’re not rebuilding in Vancouver, and JT Miller is going to be a big part of our future.”

And apparently, the Penguins weren't the only ones...

However, when asked about Miller in his trade deadline press conference, general manager Patrik Allvin provided a contradicting update, stating:

“I never had an offer for J.T. Miller.”

So, no offer at all Allvin, or none that pleased you?

In 60 games this season, Millers has collected 20 goals and 54 points so far. He’s under contract through the end of the 2029–30 season at an $8 million cap hit. We can understand why some teams didn’t want to take on his salary, especially when it was well-known across the league that Vancouver was not interested in retaining part of his cap.

The Canucks will return to action for their first post-deadline game on Saturday when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs.
