Connor Bedard signs new deal and Gary Bettman doesn’t like it!
The new face of the NHL isn’t making the commissioner happy…
Pittsburgh Penguins’ Sidney Crosby and Edmonton Oilers’ Connor McDavid are still around and doing great on NHL ice, there is still room being made for a new face of the company in Connor Bedard.
The Chicago Blackhawks rookie phenomenon and Calder Trophy winner for the past season has just signed a new endorsement deal that could lead to serious friction with the league and its commissioner Gary Bettman.
That’s because Bedard went on to ink a contract with Gatorade despite the fact that the NHL recently signed Bodyarmor as their new hydration sponsor…
You see where this is going.
Bedard deserves all of the attention and sponsor deals he can get : he is a talented forward that has already taken over the NHL by storm. Top athletes sign with Gatorade all over the world and there is no doubt that this deal will be very lucrative for Bedard.
However, Bettman is most likely displeased with the new deal, especially since he knows all too well that Bedard is the new face of his company. The commissioner was probably thrilled to see Oilers’ captain McDavid sign a contract with BodyArmor, only to get this blow with Bedard’s signature.
I can see why one of the NHL superstars signing with a top competitor would negatively affect business… But I’m still wondering what Bettman can do about it besides not standing for that new endorsement?
Only time will tell how things plan out between both parties. Let’s hope that Bedard’s lucrative new deal with Gatorade won’t hinder his fate to become the new face of the NHL.
