Connor Bedard heavily criticized for cocky move in Blackhawks season opener

Tough crowd in the first game of the season.

Connor Bedard was pulling out all the stops for the Chicago Blackhawks’ season opener in Utah last night and that included attempting a Michigan on goalie Connor Ingram.

The Hawks and its superstar player were down by one goal nearly halfway through the third period, and Bedard pushed to tie the game with the bold move.

The Utah Hockey Club held off and got away with the 5-2 for the franchise’s first ever win in the league, and on their inaugural night nonetheless.

After the game, Bedard was heavily criticized for attempting the controversial move in the first game on the calendar, with fans calling him out for the tricky maneuver, that he eventually failed to complete, losing control of the puck.

Some fans wondered why Bedard hadn’t attempted a simpler shot to make sure the Blackhawks had a real chance at tying the game, while others simply went at the young superstar for being cocky, some even saying that he could later get in trouble or even ‘flattened’ for attempting the Michigan again.

Here are some of the comments that were trending on Bedard, along with his failed Michigan:

Throughout the game however, there is no doubt that Bedard looked like the Blackhawks’ best player. He ended the night with two assists, five shots on goal and a +1 rating in 21 minutes and 14 seconds of play.

To be honest, I don’t care what the fans have been saying : I don’t expect this to be the last Michigan attempt by Bedard this season or in his career.
