It was a scary scene on Monday night in Montreal when Calgary Flames defenseman Chris Tanev took a slap shot to the head and laid motionless on the ice of the Bell Center.
During the second period, the blue liner attempted to block a shot from Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki and as soon as Tanev was hit, the Habs who were on a 5-on-3 advantage asked for a stoppage of play.
Tanev remained down for several moments in front of a worried crowd before eventually being helped up by teammates. It was later reported that he was sent to the hospital for further testings.
On Tuesday, Tanev traveled with the team to Calgary to undergo further evaluation. On Wednesday, reporter Irfaan Gaffar shared the latest update on Tanev, whose “ scans are good.”
“He is progressing well. Hopes to be back on the ice with his teammates soon,” fans can read in Gaffar’s update.
He is listed as day-to-day, per head coach Darryl Sutter.
Before he was rushed to the hospital in Montreal, Tanev had logged nearly 12 minutes of ice time and recorded one shot on net. So far this season in 24 games, Tanev has five assists.
The Flames are back in action later today as they take on the Vancouver Canucks. Tanev won’t be in uniform.
