Canucks reshape roster with two huge trades on Friday.

The Vancouver Canucks are a drastically different looking team today after two major trades on Friday.

One way or another, the Vancouver Canucks have drastically altered their fortunes this season.

Over the course of the last 24 hours the Vancouver Canucks have done some major surgery on their roster with a pair of trades, first a deal with the New York Rangers and a subsequent trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins that involved assets acquired in the first deal.

The first trade was by far the biggest deal of the day with the Canucks sending star forward J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers alongside defenseman Erik Brannstrom and prospect Jackson Dorrington in exchange for forward Filip Chytil, defenseman Victor Mancini and a first round pick at the 2025 NHL Draft coming back the other way.

Canucks receive:

Filip Chytil
Victor Mancini
Rangers 2025 first round pick

Rangers receive:

J.T Miller
Erik Brannstrom
Jackson Dorrington

The second deal would see the Canucks quickly flipping assets acquired in the first deal in order to bolster their roster, with the Canucks giving up the first round pick they acquired from the Rangers as well as Danton Heinen, Vincent Desharnais and Melvin Fernstrom in a deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins in order to add both Marcus Pettersson and Drew O'Connor.

Canucks receive:

Marcus Pettersson
Drew O'Connor

Penguins receive:

Rangers 2025 first round pick
Danton Heinen
Vincent Desharnais
Melvin Fernstrom

Whether or not this will make the Canucks a better team on the ice will remain to be seen but it had become clear over the last several weeks and months that something had to give in Vancouver. There was no question that the Canucks were dealing from a position of relative weakness here with the ongoing feud between Canucks star forward Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller dominating headlines for much of this National Hockey League season.

One of the more comical parts of these deals is that the Canucks have now added a third player with the last name "Pettersson" to their roster which will no doubt be a major headache for the Canucks broadcast crew as well as anyone covering the team moving forward.

What did you think of the big trade day for the Canucks? Has is made them better? Has it made them worse? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
